Commercial

Subway, Lancaster, PA
Meeder Development and Wohlsen Construction retained Greenebaum Structures for the structural engineering design of this urban Subway restaurant. The building was demolished, and a new two-story commercial building was constructed with pedestrian-oriented retail space, second-floor commercial space and parking to the rear of the building. Foundations had to accommodate several previous buildings on this site and an adjacent five-story building. Stuart & Associates Architects was project architect for this 3,200 SF building.

Barnes & Noble Bookstore at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA
Tippetts/Weaver Architects skillfully adapted two historic buildings in downtown Lewisburg into this shared college and commercial bookstore. An 1880’s timber-framed warehouse in the rear and a 1940’s steel-framed commercial building in the front were joined to create a two-story atrium, which includes Lewisburg’s first escalator. Greenebaum Structures’ challenges included load-rating the existing buildings, staggering framing to meet different existing floor levels, and removing part of the second floor and roof to create the atrium. Zartman Construction of Northumberland was the general contractor for this 37,000 SF project.

Ashbridge Barn Adaptive Reuse, Exton, PA
Caldwell, Heckles & Egan, Inc. and Bernardon Haber Holloway Architects adapted this historic Chester County stone barn into a new $2.3 million commercial building adjacent to the Main Street at Exton retail center. The stone walls were retained, and Greenebaum Structures designed new steel-framed floors and a new trussed roof, due to advanced deterioration of the barn’s timber framing. Wendell August Forge operates a retail facility and working aluminum forge on the lower level. Offices or a restaurant are planned for the upper level.
