Heritage Center Quilt Museum, Lancaster, PA
Downtown Lancaster’s Heritage Center Quilt Museum addition provided a new main entry, an expanded gift shop, a new ice cream parlor, additional exhibition space, and a new ADA elevator to the already successful destination. Cox Evans Architects blended a compatible masonry façade with dramatic and functional new interior spaces. Greenebaum Structures devised structural design solutions for several challenges, including shoe-horning a new structural steel frame into a tight urban site and stabilizing adjacent building foundations for the new project. Caldwell, Heckles & Egan was the contractor for this $1.5 million project. Governor Ed Rendell opened the museum in November to a large crowd of enthusiastic Lancastrians.

Overlook Barn, Lancaster, PA
Award Winner: Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County Award, 2007
This historic Pennsylvania German bank barn was adapted by Manheim Township into Overlook Park’s community center, snack bar and golf course support building. Hickey Architects and Caldwell, Heckles & Egan retained the exposed mortise-and-tenon heavy timber frame but added dramatic new windows, a glass front wall and a partial mezzanine. The existing silo was used as a new elevator shaft, and a bridge was built to connect the silo to the mezzanine level.
