Albright/Hildebrandt Daycare Facility, Lancaster, PA

The challenge of this project was to adapt an abandoned brick manufacturing plant into a two-story center for adult and child daycare. The high-bay shop was infilled with a second floor; an adjacent story was demolished to provide parking and site access; a multi-stop elevator was installed to meet the new floor levels; and the existing 19th century industrial features were incorporated into 21st century uses. Tippetts/Weaver Architects provided the design inspiration, Greenebaum Structures provided structural analysis and design, and Carroll Contractors crafted the adaptations. Historic tax credits ensured that the plant’s original character was maintained.
