Yorktowne Medical Center, York, PA

This prototype medical office building/ambulatory surgical center is located just south of York City. Designed by Cornerstone Design Architects and built by Hogg Construction with structural design and analysis by Greenebaum Structures, the 125,000 SF building includes an MRI facility, a day surgery center and numerous medical practices. Although the entire building is steel-framed, the office floors are supported on steel joists and form deck, while the surgery floors are framed with composite steel beams and deck. Fire rating permitted pre-engineered timber roof trusses over the conventional office wing, but required light gauge trusses over the surgery center. Construction costs were approximately $10 million.
